If You Don’t Feel Like Celebrating This Year
When things feel out of our control, we often cannot see a solution or way out. It feels impossible.
Over the last few years we have all gotten pretty comfortable with that “this is out of my control” feeling. The news of late is only exacerbating that helpless feeling. But what about the things we CAN control? Perhaps this July, we take a moment to acknowledge one of the most important and effective things we can do right now to help ourselves, our family, the planet and everyone on it.
By now you’ve probably seen the jarring statistic that only 5% of plastic has ever been recycled. EVER. Recycling plastic? Turns out, that’s kind of fake. Plastic is in our bodies, our drinking water, our oceans, our animals - it is quite literally everywhere.
First and foremost, we can reduce the plastics we use in our everyday life. Step one is awareness. Start to notice how you use single-use plastics.
Then think about what changes you can make.
Fill up that reusable water bottle before you leave home.
Grab your travel mug before you head out for your favorite latte.
Bring lunch instead of buying.
Sign up for dairy delivery and get those classic reusable glass milk bottles delivered to your door.
Next, educate yourself. There are a lot of people and brands talking about sustainability - not everyone is doing it right. Learn about PFAS and PLA and how these paper or compostable packaging options are anything but ‘green’ and sustainable.
Once you start to think about what you can shift, everything starts to change. And wow, does it feel good to do something good!
Of course, this month just so happens to be Plastic Free July!
Plastic Free July is a global movement to be a part of the solution to plastic pollution and refuse single-use plastics. Obviously, a cause that is very important to everyone at USEFULL.
